Edward C. Nofziger was born on June 14, 1913 in Porterville, California. He studied art at the University of California at Los Angeles, Columbia University, and at the Art Students League in New York City.
Nofziger created illustrations for many magazines, including The Saturday Evening Post, Collier's Magazine, and Esquire. He also served as a cartoonist for the United States Forest Service from the 1940s to the early 1960s. It was during this time that he drew the Joe Beaver cartoons.
He wrote and illustrated many children's books. Some of his titles include: Shorty (1941), Two Trees (1944), and Spunky (1946). Nofziger also worked as illustrator for many other children's boo
