Born in 1914, in Santiago de Cuba, Daniel Serra-Badué received his early art education at age ten at the Escuela Municipal de Bellas Artes of that city. At age thirteen he traveled to New York City to study with Catalán painter, José Simont. At fourteen, Serra-Badué was the youngest student ever admitted to the Art Students League in New York. At age fifteen, in 1929, he traveled to Spain to study with Catalán artist, Enrique Pascual Monturiol in Barcelona. The following year he returned to Cuba to finish his high school education while he studied with Hernandez Giró. Serra-Badué returned to Spain in 1932, settling in Barcelona.
