Biography Emilie (Emily) Von Auw
Emilie von Auw studied during the 1930's under the top teachers at the Bauhaus School* of Design and the Textile School, both in Germany (they closed in 1933), and at the American Academy in Rome*. She also attended Packer Collegiate Institute ( school for girls in Brooklyn), the Parsons School of Design* in New York, and L'Ecole Americaine des Beaux Arts in Fontainebleau*.
From 1939 Miss von Auw was director of the Studio Workshop in Albuquerque. She lived in Albuquerque for 44 years, arriving from Brooklyn, New York, where she grew up. Her mother passed away in 1939, and Emilie headed to New Mexico where she taught at the University of New Mexico during the 1940's, in the Art Department.
