Biography Georgia Jessup
Born in 1926 in Washington D.C., Georgia Mills Jessup became a strong force for art education in that city and also an accomplished painter, sculptor, muralist, ceramist, and collage artist.
Her family was artistic and talented, and by the mid-1980s, twenty-nine members of her family were supporting themselves with art and photography careers.
She apprenticed to the W.P.A. artist, Herman L. Walker and then earned a B.F.A. degree from Howard University in 1959 and an M.F.A. at Catholic University of America in ceramics, and the District of Columbia Teachers College.
