Born in Birmingham, England on June 10, 1818. Fussell attended the Royal Academy in London and worked as an artist for the Illustrated London News. He exhibited in London and taught at the Nottingham Art School until 1903. In that year he joined his son in San Diego and spent the last nine years of his life there. Although quite elderly, he produced some artworks and taught art at the Raja Yoga College. He died in San Diego on May 6, 1912.
