Born in Norway in 1825. Taaffe arrived in San Francisco with the Gold Rush in 1851. He was an insurance agent until his later years when he was appointed consul for Norway, Sweden and Denmark. He evidently sculpted in his leisure. Taaffe died in Alameda on April 16, 1874 and was buried in San Francisco. Exh: Mechanics' Inst. (SF), 1871.
