John Alexander Beer (1853-1906)
Primarily an illustrator, he was born at Stockholm January 18, 1853, but went to America as a young man in 1869 and stayed for 5 years. He traveled to Russia and worked as an artist for the Imperial Court, eventually settling in London where he worked for major magazines. Beer was an excellent figure artist, at his best in free pen and ink and wash studies. Examples of his work are in the Victoria and Albert Museum.
