Biography Josselin Bodley
Born in 1893, Bodley emerged from a prestigious family, the son of historian JEC Bodley a friend of Oscar Wilde's at Balliol College, Oxford. After a nomadic childhood and an education at Eton, Bodley left for Paris, intent on a career as an artist, this was postponed by the outbreak of WW1. His artistic style was defined by the experiences he had in France, his early works were moulded by the ancient architecture and surrounding French landscape. Stylistically his work is a combination of tradition, modernity and realistic, many of his works reflect his intense exposure to war.
