Jean Boucher was born at Cesson (Ille-et-Vilaine), France on November 20, 1870 and died in Paris, France on June 17, 1939. He was a teacher at the Ecole des Beaux-Arts* and a member of the Institute beginning 1889.
Of a very romantic temperament, he exhibited groups in plaster and in marble at the Salon such as Un soir (1899), L'Ete (1900), and Devant la mer (1901), as well as multiple busts of contemporaries. He also exhibited various pieces and fragments of the Victor Hugo monument that he executed by Guernesey, considered to be one of his major works.
He is the author of the statue of Ernest Renan at Treguier and of the monument Victoire, unveiled at Verdun,
