Biography   William Essex


William Essex trained under Charles Muss (1779-1824), the royal enamel painter to William IV, and exhibited at the Royal Academy in 1818 and throughout the 1820s.  From 1827 Essex began receiving royal commissions, first from George IV and later from Queen Victoria and Prince Albert, to whom he was appointed the royal enamel painter in 1837 and 1841.
