Landscape painter James Forrester was born in 1729, In Ireland. He had a short career as a painter in Dublin, working with the Society's School of Drawing. James then moved to Rome in 1755, where he spent the last 20 years of his life.
James traveled extensively in Italy to familiarize himself with the landscape. He is best known for his vast romantic landscapes depicting scenes of idyllic pastoral life. His drawings are particularly renowned, such as his eight views of Italian scenes, which were purchased by William Henry Dawson, 1st Earl of Portarlington.
