Biography Bernhard Fries
Bernhard Fries was
born in Heidelberg in 1820 and was the son of the well-known banker,
manufacturer and art collector Christian Adam Fries (1766-1847). He was
trained by the historical painter Carl Koopmann in Karlsruhe and
completed his studies at the Academy of Arts in Munich, between 1835 and
Since 1838 he repeatedly traveled to Italy and also deepened his
artistic skills at Academy in Dusseldorf. He established as a landscape
painter and seems to have been deeply inspired by Carl Anton Joseph
Examples of his artistic output can be found, for
instance, at the Neue Pinakothek and the Schackgalerie in Munich.
