François Garnier (ca. 1600-1672)
He came from an artist and decorator family working in
Fontainebleau. In Paris he opened a studio, which specialized in the
still life genre - inspired by the Flemish and Dutch tradition. Besides
painting, he successfully worked as an art dealer and was in close
contact with the artists of the Paris neighborhood of Saint- Germain,
which was a well-known artist community at that time. Through the
marriage with the widow Marie Guilbert he became the stepfather and
mentor of Louise Moillon, one of the most famous French still-life
painters of the 17th Century.
