Biography James Gilmour
James Gilmour 1885-1937 was a lithographer by trade who started a printing business in Glasgow, Scotland, UK in 1906. The company at that time specialized in fine art calendars and so James Gilmour often used his own paintings for the calendars. The bulk of his watercolour work was of fishing villages and boats in the harbour in the East Neuk of Fife, although later in life he also painted still lifes which were perhaps not of the same quality as his fish villages.
The printing business continued through four generations with many changes over the years until the 1990s when it was taken over by a larger concern who wanted its customer base and hitech phototypesetting expertise.
