Alfredo Helsby (1862-1933)
The Chilean painter Alfredo Helsby was born into a family of photographers and studied painting under the British painter Thomas Somerscales at Colegio Mackay de Valparaíso and later under Alfredo Valenzuela Puelma. In 1906 he spent a year traveling through Europe and settled in Paris, where he studied under Jean-Paul Laurens. Along with Valenzuela Puelma he exhibited his works in Paris and London.
