Biography Martin Knoller
student of Paul Troger (Welsberg, 1698 - Vienna, 1762), with whom he
worked in Vienna and Salzburg, Knoller moved to Rome in 1755, attending
Anton Raphael Mengs (Aussig, 1728 - Rome, 1779) and Johann Joachim
Winckelmann (Stendal , 1717 - Trieste, 1768). Its
autonomous activity was determined by the Austrian Minister in Italy
Count Firmian, who took him to Milan where he became court painter and
drawing teacher at the Academy of Brera in 1792. Its production
portraiture owes ways of Mengs and our case is the work style matches
with the present portrait of Anton von Maron (Vienna, 1733 - Rome, 1808)
that our certainly met in Rome attending l¿atelier Mengs.
