Biography Hubert Lewis
Hubert Robert Lewis, who signed his work as H. Lewis or H R Lewis, was born April 5, 1865 in Govan, Scotland, and died February 1952 in Pennsylvania.
He was a steel worker, who lived in Wales most of his childhood and who came to the states from a ship leaving from Ireland with his father to work in the steel mills in Pennsylvania. He decided to start painting and creating chalk pastels, and was able to support his family satisfactorily, with the proceeds of his commissions. His works included landscapes, florals, replicas of the famous Pinkie and Blue Boy, as well as others.
He is also listed on a library website from PA as an artist, as well as Davenport's Art Reference & Price Guide 2012, page 1600.
