Biography Ossip Lubitch
Ossip Lubitch’s passion was painting and like many aspiring artists emerging at the turn of the 20th Century, he traveled to the cultural centers of Berlin and Paris. While in Berlin, Lubitch designed cinema and stage designs with his fellow Russian ex-patriots. It was a desire to paint which drew him to Paris. There he was fascinated with Rembrandt, Goya, and Degas. Along with painting, he took an interest in etchings and drawings.
In 1944 Lubitch was interned at Drancy after failing to declare himself as a jew. He remained there until the Liberation of Paris. Later, Lubitch bequeathed his works created in Drancy to the Yad Vasheim Institute in Jerusalem. Lubitch’s work can be seen in
