Oskar Martin-Amorbach (1897-1987)
Born in Amorbach, Oskar Martin attended the Royal School of Applied Arts in Munich from 1914. After completing his studies, he moved to Samerberg in Chiemgau and joined the artists' association ‘Die Welle’ [The Wave]. He became known to a broad public thanks to a fresco in the Munich Glaspalast (formerly Haus der Deutschen Kunst),. In 1939, he was awarded the title of professor; from 1943, he was professor of history painting at the Akademie der Bildenden Künste in Berlin. His favorite subjects were genre scenes in the tradition of Wilhelm Leibl and Franz Defregger in the style of New Objectivity, as well as war depictions. In 1950/51, he restored and complemented the frescos in the Würzburg Neumünsterk
