Biography Emilie Mediz-Pelikan
Emilie Mediz-Pelikan was born in Upper Austria and studied at the
Academy of Arts in Vienna, where she met Albert Zimmermann (1808-1888),
her professor and lifelong mentor. The artist followed him to Salzburg
and in 1885 to Munich, and also specialized in landscape painting.
Emilie Mediz-Pelikan was well-connected to the artists' colony in
Dresden, where she became a permanent resident in 1894, together with
her husband, the painter Karl Mediz (1868-1945). The couple was
represented at the Hagebund collective exhibition in 1903 and was
acknowledged by art critics like Ludwig Hevesi (1843-1910). Works by
