Biography Stellan Morner
Stellan Mörner married the Russian artist Moussia Plechko in Paris in 1931. During this period his artisthood was characterized by a pure surrealism, a strong contrast to his earlier focus on post-cubism. Mörner's surrealistic and often dreamy depictions were exhibited in a series of exhibitions in cities such as Copenhagen, Paris and London during the 1930s and attracted much attention. This work depicts his sleeping wife, calmly resting against a colorful and almost abstract background. Mörner painted this loving image from memory from a dream of his wife, a vision that appeared when the artist was ill in fever for many days in 1935.
