Biography Antonio Ponce
Antonio Ponce was born in Valladolid in 1608 and moved to Madrid with his family during his childhood. In 1624 he was apprenticed in the workshop of Juan van der Hamen, the most renowned painter of still lifes of his time. In this unpublished bodegón Antonio Ponce walks away as the elements and composition of the prototypes invented by his teacher Juan van der Hamen. Ponce takes a still life with diagonals, asymmetry and own mess of a late Baroque. For the arrangement of the elements, Ponce employs a staggered plinths or ashlar stone feature that allows the accumulation of objects. This scalability is the only circumstance that subtly recalls his teacher.
