Biography Jan Quellinus
Jan Erasmus Quellinus (1634-1715) was a pupil of his father Erasmus Quellinus (1607 - 1678). He lived in Italy until 1660 (Roma, ca 1657-59, Venice, ca 1660, Naples, Florence). Quellinus returned to Antwerp and became a master. He married the daughter of David II Teniers with whom he had eleven children.
In 1680 he became court painter of Emperor Leopold II of Austria. In 1712 he became blind and returned to Mechelen. He specialized in religious, mythological and historical scenes with an architectural background.
