Biography Wilhelm Rudolph
In 1906, Rudolph started to train in lithography, but interrupted his education in 1908 in order to study at the Academy of Fine Arts in Dresden. He was trained with Robert Sterl and Carl Bantzer. From 1919 to 1932, he worked as a freelance artist in Dresden. From 1932, Rudolph was an appointed professor at the Dresden Art Academy.
In the Third Reich, his works were classified 'degenerate'. Since 1937, he was not allowed to exhibit his works anymore, and in 1939, he was even dismissed from his post. During the air raids on Dresden in February 1945, his early work has been largely destroyed. As a consequence, Rudolph created hundreds of drawings and woodcuts on the occasion of this event.
