Biography   Max Uhlig


Max Uhlig was born 1937.  Max Uhlig studied under Theo Richter and Max Schwimmer at the Academy of Fine Arts in Dresden in the 1950s.  In the early 1960s, he was a master student of Hans Theo Richter at the Deutsche Akademie der Künste in Berlin.

Before devoting himself to painting, he worked almost exclusively as a graphic artist until the mid-1970s.  From 1995 to 2002, Uhlig was a professor at the Academy of Fine Arts in Dresden.

His works are regularly on display in overview exhibitions on the art of the GDR and are part of major museum collections, including the Neue Nationalgalerie in Berlin, the Galerie Neue Meister in Dresden and the Metropolitan Museum of Art in New York. (cko)
