Biography Knud Andreassen Baade
After hist first artistic training in Bergen, in 1825 Knud Andreassen Baade attended
the Copenhagen Academy to study with Christoffer Wilhelm Eckersberg.
Then he studied for many years in Dresden with Johan Chistian Dahl,
interrupted by traveling through Norway, Bavaria, Tirol and Switzerland.
Since 1845 he lived in Munich where he exhibited in 1849 a depiction of
a nightly Norwegian coast with outstanding success. The well known
painter Wilhelm von Kaulbach und Carl Rottmann praised the composition
and prince Luitpold wanted to have a replica of it.
Until his death, the
depiction of coastal scenaries by night remained Baades preferred theme.
