Georg Curt Bauch (1887-1967)
The artist was born as the son of the Meissen porcelain painter Wilhelm Bauch in Meissen. He first studied at the School of Applied Arts in Dresden as a student of Hugo Spieler and later attended the Academy as a student of Robert Diez. In 1914 Bauch was awarded the Prix de Rome. This was followed by numerous trips to Rome, Palermo, Agrigento, Paris and Copenhagen. In 1917 he built a studio with his own ore foundry in Dresden-Loschwitz. He took part in the Große Berliner Kunstausstellung in 1925. Bauch’s consistent antifascist attitude led to existential problems and he fled to Brione sopra Minusio in 1944.
