Biography James B Coy
James Coy was born the son of a waver, and was a landscape painter.
He studied in the Dublin Society's School in Shaw's Court, and was an apprentice to Robert Carver. He also studied under George Mullins.
He refused to follow Carver to London in 1769 and started as a landscape painter himself. His artwork was mainly Co. Wicklow scenes, and he exhibited landscapes with the Society of Artists in William Street Dublin around 1769-1774.
He Painted many landscapes for Lord Altamont at West Port Co. Mayo.
James Coy obtained an illness as the result of a chill, and died in his 30th year.
