Biography Ernest Dinkel
Ernst Dinkel was a painter of landscapes and biblical subjects. Born on October 24, 1894 at Huddersfield, Yorkshire, he was of German descent. Dinkel served in France from 1916-19, then studied at Huddersfield and the Royal College of Art from 1921 to 1925. He was awarded a Traveling Scholarship to Italy.
On his return he began exhibiting at the New English Art Club and the Royal Academy in 1927. He taught at the Royal College of Art from 1925-1940, ARWS 1939, and RWS 1957. He was the Head of Stourbridge School of Art 1940-1947 and Head of the School of Design, Edinburgh College of Art, 1947-1959. Dinkel`s work is in the Tate, London.
