Biography Thomas Fairless
Thomas Kerr Fairless was born at Hexham, Northumberland. He studied wood engraving at Newcastle on Tyne under Thomas Bewick`s pupil Isaac Nicholson. On moving to London he practiced landscape painting.
Between 1848 and 1851 his work was exhibited at The Royal Academy, British Institution and in the case of the present work, Suffolk Street. According to his biography (DNB) his works were executed "in a broad and vigorous manner, with a fine idea of colour and exquisite feeling of the beauties of country scenery".
He returned to Hexham in 1851 due to poor health where he died two years later at age 28. As a result his work was small and his pictures are rarely offered for sale.
