Biography Filippo Franzoni
Filippo Franzoni, son of a lawyer, grew up in an aristocratic environment in Milan. He studied under Giuseppe Bertini 1877-1884 and Luigi Bisi at Milan's Brera and socialized in Bohemian circles.
In 1887 he moved to a studio on the Brissago Island in Ascona at the invitation of the Russian Baroness Antonietta Saint-Léger. After living in Paris and Venice, he returned to Locarno and became friends with important representatives of the Swiss art scene, including Albert Welti, Hans Emmenegger and Ferdinand Hodler.
He was also elected to federal juries and commissions. In 1904 he temporarily lost his eyesight.
His work is in art collections of his native canton and in northern Italy.
