Biography Sergei Gerasimov
Sergei Gerasimov (1885-1964) Sergey Vasilyevich Gerasimov was born 1885 in the Russian Mozhaysk. He received his education by the painter Konstantin Korovin. His early works show influences of the modern art. In the 1920s and 30s his art is characterized by motifs of social realism as they corresponded to the taste of the communist government. During this time, Sergei Gerasimov taught at the art school VChUTEMAS. Later, however, Gerasimov turned again to the modern trends. He was a member of the Russian Artists' Association, and was demoted from that position during Stalin reign, but shortly after Stalin's death became re-instated again. His works can be found at the Tretyakov Gallery in Moscow.
