Biography Ann (Jones-Hewson) Hewson
Ann Hewson (née Ann Jones-Hewson) was born in Chingford, East London on July 7th, 1933. Her father, John Jones-Hewson, was a car mechanic. Her mother, Margery, had studied singing and piano at the Royal College of Music but gave up her music career to raise a family. During the early part of World War 2 Margery took Ann and her younger brother John to stay in Bristol to avoid the bombing of London. The children were in Bristol when it was first bombed in November 1940. After this they were hurriedly evacuated to Ruthin, in North Wales, where they stayed with their relatives, the Rice-Joneses, for the remainder of the war.
