Biography Eva Hills
Evangeline Mary Bellsmith Hills is the niece of the famous artist,
Frederic Marlett Bell-Smith. She was born in Penge, Surrey, England in
1875, the daughter of Henry Wentworth Bellsmith and Suzannah Anne
Bellsmith (nee Sturch). Her parents moved to Toronto, Ontario in 1881
while she was a young girl. Her parents divorced in 1888.
After the
divorce Henry Wentworth Bell-Smith remarried and moved to New York
while Eva and her siblings remained with their mother in Toronto,
living at 330 Jarvis Street, next door to her famous uncle, Frederic
Marlett Bell-Smith.
On July 17, 1917, at the age of 42, she married
Charles Phillip Hills, a commercial bee keeper. She is known for still
