Biography Franz Maria Jansen
From 1905 to 1906, Franz Jansen studied Architecture at the Technical University in Karlsruhe. After that, he was a master student at the Vienna Academy of Arts. His early works were influenced by Symbolism and Art Nouveau.
In 1911, he co-founded the Cologne Secession and the Gereonsklub. In 1912, he was a co-founder of the Berlin Secession. Jansen became famous especially with his early portfolios and cycles of graphic works. In 1918, he wrote a manifesto on Expressionism.
At the time of National Socialism, some of his works were regarded degenerate, while others were conformal to the regime. After the Second World War, he was co-founder of the Rheinisch-Bergisch artist circle. Works by Jansen are in the collection o
