Biography Hans Jurgen Kallmann
Kallmann grew up in Halle at the Saale and spent the early years of his career, from 1930 to 1944, in Berlin. At the time of National Socialism, he was banned from exhibitions in 1937, and some of his works were confiscated or destroyed. From 1949, he worked as a professor of nude and portrait painting at the art academy in Caracas, Venezuela. From 1952 he worked as a freelance artist in Pullach near Munich. In the following years, he created especially portraits of famous people, a which he gained notoriety. His works combine mainly a figurative with an expressive style of painting. Opened in 1992, the Kallmann Museum in Munich-Ismaning manages Kallmann‘s artistic estate. (cko)
