Biography Arthur Lowe
Nottingham born, Arthur Lowe was a painter who lived most of his life in the Vale of Belvoir at Kinoulton about 15 miles south-east of Nottingham. He attended Nottingham School of Art c. 1880 before venturing to London where, according to a catalogue entry made by the Laing Art Gallery, he spent time at the Slade School and also at St. John's Wood School of Art. This has not been confirmed.
Lowe was a member of the Nottingham Society of Artists, exhibiting there first in 1898 He also showed at the RA, RBSA, RCamA, Walker Art Gallery, Liverpool and at Nottingham Castle Museum. In 1936, aged over 70 years, he held his first and probably only London solo exhibition of more than 250 works at the Burlington Gallery.
