JM.L. POUM MALAKOUL (Bangkok, Thailand 1910-1973)
Poum Malakoul, born in 1910, was the son of the Royal Household minister, M.R. Pum Malakoul. He studied at the Ecole des Beaux Arts in Nancy, France. Malakoul was initially an architect and designed the Erawan Hotel in Bangkok, Thailand as well as the Chitrlada Palace, Monument of Victory (1941), Carlton Restaurant, Royal Hotel and Sida Club. The artist received awards for his designs of the SEATO emblem and the stamps for the Southeast Asia Peninsula Games.
In his lifetime, Malakoul was known by the royal title of Mom Luang (The Honorable) and is often cited in art publications and databases as M. L. Poum Malakoul. The artist also went by the variant spelling
