Biography Eugène Robert Pougheon
Student of the National School of Fine Arts of Paris, Pougheon will follow the courses of Jean-Paul Laurens and Albert Besnard who will influence him particularly. He will also receive the teachings of Charles Lameire at the Ecole Nationale Superieure des Arts Décoratifs, where he will become friends with Jean Dupas. He was closely associated with other well-known artists of the Bordeaux School: Jean Gabriel Domergue, Raphaël Delorme, Jean Despujols and Alfred Janniot.
Grand Prix of Rome in 1914, he could not rejoin the Villa Medicis until after the war, from 1919 to 1923. He then develops a geometric and antique style. His nudes reach a post-cubist sculptural monumentality similar to that of Tamara de Lempicka.
