Mabel Louise Wheelock (1887-1950)
Mabel Wheelock was the daughter of a prominent Chicago family who founded the village of Wilmette, where she lived her entire life. An early student of the Armour Institute of Technology in Chicago, she continued her artistic studies at the Art Institute of Chicago.
Wheelock was able to take advantage of her education and position to travel the US, Canada and Mexico, looking for exotic and interesting places to paint. The early 1920's found her associated with the Summer school of the Art Institute of Chicago at Ox-Bow in Saugatuck.
