Biography Dimitris Yioldassis
Dimitris Gioldasis (1897-1993) spent his childhood and youth on a tobacco plantation and was
always deeply rooted in the nature of his homeland. From 1914, he
attended art school in Athens. During his studies, he already received
several awards for his work and in 1922 he had his first exhibition.
Gioldasis traveled to Paris, London, and New York. From 1966 he settled
in Karditsa, a village in south-western Thessaly. The Athens National
Gallery honored the artist with a retrospective in 1977. Gioldasis
created primarily landscapes along with some portraits and genre scenes,
finding his motifs in the landscape of Thessaly.
