Born in Wisconsin in April 1856. During the 1890s Mrs. English and husband, Frank, ran a store and post office at Capistrano. While there, she was a pupil of Charles Fries and posed as the mother in his painting Too Late in which the doctor arrives too late to cure the dying child. (The painting is in the Corcoran Gallery). After 1910 she was a writer of short stories while living in Long Beach. She died there on Jan. 30, 1932.
