Alphonse Moncel (1866-1930)
Born in Paris, Alphonse Moncel was a student of Thomas and Mercié and sent his oeuvre to the saloons since 1888. For the corner pavilions of the Petit Palais, he created the two high reliefs Venus and Juno. He made travel sketches, especially architectural veduta, in Greece, Italy, Switzerland and France. In the 1840s, he published ‘Athènes monumental et pittor.’ and ‘Etude de dessin de paysage après nature’. (cko)
