Clifford Alexander Summerville Canadian/American (1892 - )
Cliff Summerville, as he signed his name, was born December 12, 1892, in Toronto, Ontario, Canada. His parents were Alexander and Elizabeth (Shulkuis) Summerville. His early artistic training is unknown but by 1914 he had married Irene Elizabeth Clarke, immigrated to the United States and was living in Detroit. By 1920 Summerville was listed in the city directories as a decorative artist working for the Linsell Company Studios who did building decoration; an excellent example being the Willys-Overland Garage that was used for the 1918 Detroit Auto Show.
