Sohrab Sepehri was one of the most respected contemporary poets in Iran. He was a poet and painter and was born in 1928 in Kashan. After graduating from Pahlavi High School in Kashan, he studied at and obtained his Bachelor of Fine Arts from Teheran University. He began working for several government agencies while pursuing his personal interest in art and poetry.
Sepehri traveled on numerous occasions to Europe, Japan and Africa. In 1960 he traveled to Paris via land route to learn lithography. In 1960, he received the first prize at the Teheran Biennale and by 1962 he had resigned from his government position to pursue his art and poetry full time.
