Biography Dimitry Merinoff
Dimitry Merinoff was born in Pskov, near St. Petersburg, in 1896, Dimitry Merinoff first attempted to paint with toothpaste at a very young age. He began to draw when he was six and eventually received a classical education in art at the Roerich School in St. Petersburg. Later on, he continued his art studies at the Ecole Nationale des Arts Decoratifs in France.
Initially he trained as a wood sculptor, making furniture as well as panels on commission for town halls, churches, stores and railway stations. He also created frescoes and woodblock prints, which often served as models for fabric designs. One such model was used by the Chanel Fashion House for two seasons.
