Sheldon Berkowitz was born in New York in 1948. He received a Master's degree in Ceramics from City College and taught art in the public school system for thirty four years. During this time he honed his skill for pastel painting and after much experimentation, settled on a unique process. Using a layering technique, a complete watercolor painting is made serving as the foundation for his pastel painting. The result is a highly sophisticated work of luminous textures and clarity.
