Agnes de Bethune was born in Massachusetts in 1951. This artist, who has been drawing and painting since childhood, began exhibiting in New York during the early nineties. After years of moving around the country, she and her husband, the artist Thomas O'Flynn, bought a dilapidated building in Jersey City in the 1980s and transformed it into artist's studios and a living space, allowing her to devote more of her time to painting.
Part of the rebirth of this space included the creation of a garden, and it is this that inspired de Bethune's current paintings.
