Mr Blazev was born in Orehovo Bulgaria. His skill was recognized at an early age when he won a national competition which landed him a 5 year scholarship at the Bulgarian Academy of Fine Arts, from which he graduated with high honors. He was a portrait painter in the capital until drafted in the army for World War II. He was an illustrator in the trenches during the war.
After the war, Bulgaria became a Soviet annex and artistic freedom was prohibited. Blazev was conscripted to endless paintings of Marx, Engels and Stalin until escaping to Yugoslavia in 1948. His artistic career was better there but took a setback during the Tito/Krushchev years which force
