Earline W. Payne was born on July 17, 1926 on an Oklahoma farm and was raised in Texas and California. Earline married James O. Barnes. Through his military career, Jim and Earline moved and traveled extensively for over twenty-five years - and had five children along the way. Jim retired a Lt. Colonel from the U.S. Army in 1972. They chose El Paso for their permanent home.
Earline always wanted to be an artist, but with a large, young family there was no time. As years went by and the children grew and left home, Earline finally found time for art. She began art classes in the early 70's studying under Carl Cogar. After a few years of lessons, Cogar urged Earline to teach her own classes.
